20 Hinderances of Conversion
What follows are twenty human impediments to coming to Christ identified by Richard Baxter (1615-1691). This list is by no means exhaustive:
- the willful neglect of the means of grace
- bad company
- gross ignorance of biblical truths
- unbelief
- thoughtlessness
- hardness of heart
- great esteem & interest in the world
- habits of sin subduing the mind
- foolish self-love &presumption
- counterfeit conversion
- living among strong temptation to sin
- scandal & division in the church
- the poor education of children
- striving against the Holy Spirit
- half-heartedness in religion
- delay
- failure to follow through on good beginnings
- misunderstanding some Scriptures
- pride & unteachableness
- willful obstinacy
